Assistant Environmental Manager - Field Operations - Site C

Job Description:

The Assistant Environmental Manager is responsible supporting the Environmental Manager, Environmental Department, and Peace River Hydro Partners (PRHP) in order to meet PRHP’s Site C environmental commitments. Duties include, but are not limited to environmental program planning, reporting, training, and managing staff and other Project-related resources.  The Assistant Environmental Manager will liaise with other PRHP Teams, BC Hydro, and appropriate authorities. The Assistant Manager will cross-shift with the Environmental Manager and/or other Assistant Managers.
Provide direction and support to Environmental Coordinators, Qualified Environmental Professionals, and other team members; anticipated activities include conducting regular meetings to discuss needs, issues and successes, scheduling, staffing, training, and plans for resolving Project-related issues; field assessments and reviews; documentation and reporting of findings.
Provide training and mentoring as required
Be familiar with the Main Civil Works Contract, other Contract documents, and permits
Provide direction and support to Environmental Manager and other Managers on technical issues within the Assistant Manager’s professional skillset and experience
Collaborate and coordinate with other Managers to achieve Environmental Program goals and Project work items
Plan and assess priorities in conjunction with PRHP and BC Hydro goals and needs
Assist in PRHP’s responses to BC Hydro and regulatory body communications
Audit program tasks and their progress, including providing timely and accurate reporting that allows for timely and actionable feedback 
Raise, asses, and close out non-compliance issues 
Develop and review field standard operating procedures (SOPs) for field tasks
Developed and review Job Hazard Analysis (JHAs) for field tasks
Support the implementation of the field reporting components of PRHP’s integrated management system (IMS) 

Job Requirements:

Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities 
Ability to manage, coordinate and direct interdisciplinary teams in the field
Ability to edit and organize daily field reports, and other required field related documentation
Familiarity with the use of, maintenance, calibration, and care of field equipment
Familiar with field sampling protocols
Highly organised 
Excellent oral and written skills in English
Strong working knowledge of Microsoft Office
Collaborative leadership skills
Experience and Qualifications
Post-secondary education in environmentally- related discipline 
Proven working experience in the environmental field with at least 10 years of experience
Proven oral and written communication skills and experience
Proven leadership skills and experience
Experience in related supervisory or senior role 
Experience managing interdisciplinary field teams
Holds a valid professional certification and/or qualifies for one and will obtain professional membership within 6 months of hire date for this position 
Holds a valid class 5 drivers licence
