Drilling and Grouting Assistant Construction Manager

The Drilling and Grouting Assistant Construction Manager will be responsible for the drilling and grouting construction portion of the overall project. They will be responsible for ensuring all construction, safety and environmental requirements are met. The Drilling and Grouting Assistant Construction Manager will also be responsible for ensuring that that measurable objectives with regards to dam construction are set and performance recorded against those objectives and that continuous improvement in the achievement of those objectives becomes a guiding principle in the performance of the work.

Essential Functions
  • Responsible for the overall supervision of dam construction aspects of the project with specific emphasis on dam grouting and deep foundation work, while complying with all the applicable environmental requirements
  • Manage and work closely with developers, project managers, consultant engineers, utility providers and local authorities to ensure the quality of construction and that the project is completed on time and within budget, providing the utmost satisfaction to the client
  • Responsible for strategic planning and financial control of the foundation dam portion of the project, which includes optimizing between factors affecting timing, engineering cost, quality and constructability
  • Applies methodology for foundation treatment at civil structures including dental excavation, dental concreting, shotcreting, drilling for grouting, contact and consolidation grouting, and curtain grouting
  • Applies methodology for drilling and backfilling of LDH-DH
  • Complies with safety, quality and environmental specifications and regulations
  • Proposes solutions for placement issues
  • Plans and executes instrumentation at Main Dam, RCC, and Spillway
  • Installs drainage, dewatering, and seepage methods and treatment for seepage and drainage control
  • Creates RFIs and writes CIPs
  • Verifies design and IFC drawings
  • Interacts and coordinates with designers, clients, and subcontractors
  • Coordinates with planning, scheduling and cost control
  • Organizes manpower resources and equipment
  • Selects and purchases equipment for foundation treatment
  • Conducts continuous training and support to field
  • Monitors and manages team productivity
  • Plans and schedules weekly, monthly, and annual work
  • Prepares documents for potential claims, estimating, DFR, and CFC

Job Requirements:

Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities
  • Understand best practices of job set-up and management, understand the critical path of decision making

  • Able to build and manage teams across diverse geographical areas and cultures

  • Highly developed interpersonal communications skills and cultural sensitivity
Experience/ Qualifications
  • 3+ years of construction management experience in large and complex civil construction environments involving dams and related infrastructure;
  • Demonstrated expertise and 3 to 5 years of direct experience in grouting of earth-fill structures and dams is required
  • Post secondary education in Civil Engineering technology or related field an asset
  • Proven leadership and teamwork skills with demonstrated abilities to both work collaboratively and to influence others
  • Demonstrated highly effective platform presentation skills and training delivery skills
  • Proficient in Microsoft Office Suite, Scheduling Software-MS Project or Primavera
Working Conditions
  • Must be physically fit and able to work in remote camp locations
  • Outdoor work subject to extreme weather changes
  • Must be able to work access/board equipment in areas with uneven ground or snow or soft-ground/surface water
Please Note: This is a site-based position located at the Site C Dam in Fort St. John, British Columbia. Preference will be given to qualified, local candidates. However, we will also consider fly in/out candidates based out of Vancouver, Nanaimo, Kelowna, Calgary, or Edmonton. Rotational employees are required to work a 14/7 rotation; flights and camp accommodations are provided while on shift.
