The North East Native Advancing Society (NENAS) is a non-profit charitable organization that plays a leading role in providing employment and social programs and services to First Nations (Status and Non-Status) and Inuit people residing in Northeastern BC.

The NENAS Board of Directors is comprised of a representative from seven (7) of the First Nation’s
communities in our Northeastern BC service area, and is seeking an Urban Representative.

As the Urban Indigenous Representative, your knowledge and experience in First Nations matters, particularly in education, workforce development, and social programming would assist the Society in delivering quality services. The ideal Board candidate should have prior non-profit Board member
experience or have received formal Board training. The Board of Directors main role is perform the duties of strategic planning and basic oversight of NENAS, working closely with the Executive Director.

Commit and serve as an ambassador of NENAS.

  • Advocate our Mission, Vision and Mandate, and programs and services, as required and appropriate.
  • Follow NENAS bylaws, policies, and Board resolutions.
  • To have the financial acumen to read and understand financial statements and to otherwise help the
    Board fulfill its fiduciary responsibilities for a non-profit organization.
  • Be familiar with NENAS programs, policies and operations.
  • Support and evaluate the Executive Director. The Board is to ensure the Executive Director has the
    moral and professional support to further the goals of the Society.
  • Prepare for, regularly attend, and conscientiously participate in Board meetings, and special functions as scheduled throughout the year.
  • Respond to requests for feedback or decisions between meetings in a timely manner.
  • Attend and actively participate in Strategic Planning Sessions held every 2nd year, and Annual Leadership Intercessions.
  • Strictly adhere to the Oath of Commitment, Conflict of Interest and Confidentiality policies.
  • Agree to a two (2) year term; Board Members can serve up to three consecutive terms.
  • Attend new Board Member orientation (approximately 3 hours).
